What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is skin condition, typically encountered in the late tweneties/early thirties. Its physical appearance symptoms include 'flushed' red skin around the nose, cheeks and forehead. It can occur in cycles of 'flare ups' and remissions.
Unfortunatly for sufferers is is a chronic problem that cannot be cured. While this is the case it is possible to contain and limit outbreaks, therefore preventing any permamant damage occuring to the skin.
In persistant cases of rosacea can make blood vessles become visable on the skins surface, and the skin can take on a rough complexion. If untreated the condition can deteriorate causing damage to the structure of the skin leading to bumps and excess tissue around the nose. In extreme cases occular rosacea can affect the eyes, which is extremely dangerous.
Rosacea has been nicknamed 'the curse of the Celts' as it more frequently affects people with European anscestory, especially those with fair skin. While the condition is more frequent amongst women its symptoms are more sever in men.
While there is no cure for rosacea and the cause is unknown, medical therapy is available to control or reverse its signs and symptoms. Individuals who suspect they may have rosacea are urged to see a dermatologist or other knowledgeable physician for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
